King of Hearts

For this project of Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland, I made the King of Hearts.

Firstly, I had to research the Victorian Gothic Revival including Queen Victoria, Prince Albert, Art Nouveau, Silhouettes and the Mourning for Albert. I had some ideas for my outfit and I researched into Victorian Solider uniforms and Prince Albert's uniform.

My final ideas.

I started making without a pattern. I added wadding onto a mannequin to made the shape of a man plus I added more wadding to make a larger shape on the shoulder.

I used 2 metres of Calico and put onto the mannequin using a Blas line on the centre front and centre back. I created some new seam allowances and compared to the Victorian solider uniforms.

Lots of things needed changing. I had to move the seam allowances and cut the calico to transfer onto the paper to draw the pattern block ready for the final costume using Blas fabric not straight line!

I added some hearts onto the Jacket using Blanket Stitch.
